The Mustangs sweep a pair of home games.
The Lady Mustangs never pressed throughout their 76-16 win over Brashear Monday night. Instead they played a tough half-court defense, forcing numerous turnovers and converting them on the fast break. Marion County was up 20-5 after one quarter, 42-7 at halftime, 74-14 after 3 quarters and won by a margin of 76-16. Meredith Thomas scored 5 points for Brashear, Shelby Salter added 4, Miranda Creason, Ashley Moncrief, and Chandi March had 2 each, and Alexa Acton scored 1 point. For Marion County, Kaelyn Spratt scored 17 points, Jessica Redd had 16, Devan Johnson had 15, Randi Lee Plunkett had 12, Destiny Johnson, Sadie Pollard and Kim Shuck scored 4 each, Rachelle Sharpe and Amy Behring had 2 each, and Victoria Hales scored 1 point.
In the boys' game, the Mustangs used a combination of some trap defenses, fast breaks, and 3-point shooting to defeat Brashear 75-38. Marion County led 22-12 after the first quarter, 36-21 at the half, 64-32 after 3 quarters and won 75-38. Hayden Housman scored 20 points for Brashear, Joe Clarkson added 10, Taren Treasure had 6, and Jacob Reeves scored 2 points. Marion County scorers were led by Kason Spratt with 17, Clay Pollard had 14, Logan Krigbaum and Luke Stratton had 13 each, JJ Chatfield added 9, Reed Plunkett had 6, and AJ Wellman scored 2 points.
