Canton at Brashear January 27, 2012
The Brashear Lady Tigers and the Canton Lady Tigers both came out pressing Friday night. Brashear made the most of their press, running up a 20-8 lead after one quarter of play. The 2nd quarter scoring was more even with Brashear holding a 37-27 edge at halftime. Brashear stretched their lead to 58-44 after 3 quarters, then fought off a late Canton charge to pick up the win 67-61. Meredith Thomas scored 26 points for Brashear with teammate Shelby Salter putting in 24 points of her own. Oliva Thompson and Nikki Moncrief scored 5 each, Alexa Acton had 3, and Ashely Moncrief and Chandi March scored 2 points each. For Canton, Katie Shuman scored 20 points, Courtney Baalman added 12, Brittney Berhorst and Mariah Shaffer had 8 each, Jessie Campen had 7, and Laruen Janney scored 6 points.
Canton's press allowed them to jump ahead 27-8 after the 1st quarter of the boys game and extend that lead to 49-15 at the half. Brashear outscored Canton 21-18 in the 3rd quarter, but Canton cruised to a 77-41 win. Joe Clarkson led Brashear scoring with 17 points, Hayden Housman and Taren Treasure had 6 each, Joseph Woods had 5, Nick Bradshaw had 4, and Sam Smith scored 3 points. For Canton, Austin Hoewing and David McReynolds scored 17 points each, Gabe McKenzie had 13, Brandon Berhorst had 10, Tyler Niemann and Nick Janney scored 5 each, Zach Merrell and Garrett Serbin had 4 each, and Cameron Durst scored 2 points.
