Brashear Tournament Friday February 10, 2012
The Brashear Lady Tigers and Novinger Lady Wildcats met Friday night in the consolation game of the Brashear Tournament. Novinger took a 13-9 lead after one quarter and led 23-19 at the half. Novinger extended their lead to 35-28 after 3 quarters before Brashear mounted a comeback in the 4th. The Lady Tigers managed to close within 1 point, but Novinger hung on to win 45-42. Shelby Salter and Meredith Thomas each scored 11 points for Brashear, Ashley Moncrief and Alexa Acton had 5 each, Chandi March had 4, and Olivia Thompson and Nikki Moncrief scored 3 points each. For Novinger, Chloe Hubbard scored 18 points, Sierra Jacques added 12, Maria Gunnels had 6, Emily Reardon had 5, and Mallory Singleton scored 4 points.
The boys' game between Atlanta and Macon County was a real nail-biter. Macon County led 9-8 after one quarter and 27-25 at the half. Macon County held a 48-45 lead after 3 quarters, but Atlanta always stayed close. As the final seconds were ticking down, Macon County held a 57-56 lead, but Atlanta had the ball for a last shot. Atlanta fired up a shot and a foul was called on the putback attempt sending Atlanta's Lance Weber to the line with 0.9 seconds left. Weber knocked down both free throws to give Atlanta the 58-57 come from behind win. Tagan Brookhart scored 19 points for Atlanta, Dylan Hruska added 12, Mick Garnett and Lance Weber had 11 each, and Vincent Elrod scored 5 points. For Macon County, Aaron Maddox scored 17 points, Alex Porter and Jacob Klingsmith had 10 each, Dillan Nolte had 9, Dylan Liebhart had 6, and Damon Porter scored 5 points.
