Marion County at Brashear February 21, 2012
The defending state champion Marion County Lady Mustangs wasted no time Tuesday night showing why they are champs. They jumped out to a 23-2 lead over Brashear after one quarter and led 40-9 at the half. The second half was more of the same as they cruised to a 73-14 victory. Katie Smith led Brashear scoring with 7 points, Olivia Thompson and Chandi March had 2 each, and Shelby Salter, Ashley Moncrief, and Meredith Thomas each scored 1 point. For Marion County, Jessica Redd scored 28 points, Randi Lee Plunkett added 19, Kaelyn Spratt had 12, Sadie Pollard scored 4, and Destiny Johnson, Devan Johnson, Victoria Hales, Rachelle Sharpe, and Kim Shuck scored 2 points each.
The Marion County boys also got off to a quick start, leading Brashear 28-9 after one quarter and 49-26 at the half. The Mustangs extended their lead to 75-37 after 3 quarters and won by a score of 81-54. Taren Treasure led all scorers with 28 points for Brashear, Joe Clarkson had 11, Hayden Housman had 10, and Joseph Woods scored 5 points. For Marion County, Logan Krigbaum scored 27 points on 9 3-pointers, Clay Pollard added 20, JJ Chatfield scored 11, Reed Plunkett had 8, Brandon Atteberry had 5, Konnor Bridgman scored 4, Kason Spratt had 3, Luke Stratton had 2, and Ty Graves scored 1 point.
