Green City Baseball/Softball at Brashear September 14, 2012
The host Tigers claim a pair of home field wins Friday night.
The Brashear Lady Tigers hosted the Green City Gophers for a Tri-Rivers Conference softball game Friday. Green City got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the 1st, but Brashear answered in the bottom of the frame, taking a 3-2 lead. Brashear would never relinquish that lead, adding a run in the 3rd, three in the 4th and three in the 5th as they cruised to a 10-2 win. Meredith Thomas and Alexa Acton both tripled for Brashear and Audrey DeBie doubled. Thomas was 3 for 4, Acton was 2 for 3, as was DeBie and Sidney Sykes. Ashley Moncrief, Shelby Salter, Mandy Taylor, and Allie Garrett also had hits. Kilgore, Dolan, and Mollie had hits for Green City. Alexa Acton picked up the win for Brashear, going 6 innings and striking out 7. Audrey DeBie pitched 1 inning of relief. Heaton pitched for Green City.
The baseball game was a nail-biter as Green City took a 2-0 lead in the 1st only to see Brashear answer to take a 3-2 lead after one inning. Green City scored three times in the second to lead 5-3, but Brashear answered with a pair of runs to knot the game at 5-all after two innings. The score wouldn't change until Brashear scored a run in the bottom of the 5th as Sam Smith drew a base on balls, and came around to score on a series of bad throws on a steal attemp. The Tigers held Green City scoreless the final 2 innings to win 6-5. For Brashear, Hayden Housman went 3 for 4, with Gabe Thomas and Curtis Blakely going 2 for 4. Brundage homered for Green City with Powell, Brundage, Williams, Riddle, and Harper also having hits. Hayden Housman got the start for Brashear with Nick Bradshaw pitching 4 innings of no-hit ball for the win. Brundage pitched for Green City.
