Novinger Tournament November 28, 2012
An upset minded LaPlata girls team created a lot of excitement Wednesday night as they almost upset top seeded Scotland County. Scotland County jumped out to an early lead, but LaPlata kept chipping away at the lead and had the game tied at 34-all with under half a minute to play. Scotland County had multiple shots in the last seconds before LaPlata knocked the ball out of bounds. With one tick left on the clock, Scotland County got the inbound catch and shoot to fall for a 36-34 win. In the other Wednesday night girls game, Atlanta downed Bevier 51-40 to advance to Friday's consolation game. In boys action, Bevier advanced to Friday's consolation game with a 65-38 win over Brashear and Novinger topped Atlanta 67-49 in the championship side of the bracket.
The Bevier boys applied some early defensive pressure and took advantage of some sloppy ball handling by Brashear to get their running game going to take a 21-9 lead after one quarter. Bevier also got hot from the arc, sinking 6 first half 3-pointers to lead 40-15 at halftime. Brashear made some adjustments for the 2nd half and almost matched Bevier point for point in the 2nd half, but the damage was already done and Bevier cruised toa 65-38 win. Hayden Housman scored 12 points for Brashear, TJ Harrelson had 11, Sam Smith came off the bench for 5 points, Luke Morrow had 4, Jacob Reeves had 3, and Patrick Jochemisen and Chance Hill scored 2 points each. For Bevier, Colby Peukert led with 18 points, Jonathan Basler added 13, Jean Fiquet, McKenzey Pipes and Jesse Ashenfelter had 7 each, Tony Hamphreys had 6, Caleb Richardon had 4, and Luke Long scored 2 points.
