Novinger Tournament November 30, 2012
Friday night action from the Novinger Tournament featured the boys and girls 5th place and 7th place games. The Bevier girls took 7th place with a 48-32 win over Novinger and the Milan boys also took 7th with a 56-50 win over Brashear. The Atlanta girls took consolation with a 58-42 win over Brashear and the Bevier boys downed Green City 56-48 to take boys consolation.
In the Brashear vs Atlanta girls game, the first half was a closely contested battle with Brashear leading 14-13 after one quarter, and Atlanta leading 25-24 at halftime. The second half belonged to Atlanta as they outscored Brashear 13-8 in the third quarter and 20-10 in the fourth quarter to claim a 58-42 win. Shelby Salter and Meredith Thomas were in double figures for Brashear with 13 and 11 points, Allison Thomspson had 6, Olivia Thompson and Miranda Creason added 4 each, Nikkie Moncrief had 3, and Mandy Taylor scored 1 point. For Atlanta, Samantha Reed scored 22 points, Ashton Ross added 10, Shalyla Collier had 9, Abi Parton had 7, Sheyenne Klamert had 6, Demetri Thomas had 2, and Ashlea Pennington and Maddie Cuppy scored 1 point each.
The Brashear boys came out with the hot hand, running up a 22-9 lead on Milan after one quarter and leading 34-20 at halftime, but at a cost of numerous 1st half fouls. Milan came out pressuring the ball in the 2nd half and held Brashear to 4 third quarter points while scoring 17 of their own to pull within 38-37 after three quarters of play. As Brashear lost 2 starters to fouls and a third to injury, Milan pulled ahead and hung on for a 56-50 win. Brashear's Hayden Housman led all scorers with 23 points, Chance Hill added 10, T.J. Harrelson scored 8, Jacob Reeves had 5, and Luke Morrow scored 2 points. For Milan, Tristan Fowler scored 14 points, Holden Stallbaumer and Raul Palacios scored 13 each, Jordan Eddy added 7, John Piodos had 5, Adam Casteneda had 2, and Brett Sinclair and Matt Oxendale scored 1 point each.
