Green City at Brashear January 22, 2013
The Green City Gophers visited Brashear Tuesday for a varsity basketball doubleheader. The first quarter of the girls' game was a see-saw battle with Green City leading 9-8. The Lady Gophers extended their lead to 23-16 at the half, and stretched the lead to 38-27 after 3 quarters. The Lady Tigers mounted a huge rally in the 4th quarter, outscoring Green City 21-5 to claim a come from behind 48-43 victory. Nikkie Moncrief and Ollison Thompson scored 12 points each for Brashear, Miranda Creason had 10, Shelby Salter had 7, Olivia Thompson had 4, and Meredith Thomas scored 3 points. For Green City, Alicia Albrecht scored 20 points, Emily Sorenson added 14, Raeanne Kilgore had 3, and Sonya Ward, Shelby Dolan, and Marissa LaFaver scored 2 points each.
Brashear had the hot hand in the early going in the boys' game as they jumped out to a 15-4 lead after one quarter of play. Green City started to show some signs of life in the 2nd as they closed the gap to 23-16 at halftime. The 2nd half was all Green City as they outscored the Tigers 17-8 in the 3rd and 18-4 in the 4th quarter to win 51-35. Jacob Reeves scored 14 points for Brashear, Hayden Housman had 8, Chance Hill added 8, and Luke Morrow scored 4 points. For Green City, Zack Powell scored 14 points, Carter King had 12, Jared Brundage had 10, Hadley Williams scored 6, Miachael Riddle had 5, and Joey Hepler scored 4 points.
