Brashear vs Marion County in District Play February 16-18, 2013
Both Brashear teams face Marion County in the first round of district play. The girls game was played Saturday February 16, 2013 at LaPlata. Marion County applied pressure early, and jumped out to a 23-4 lead after one quarter. Brashear had a stronger 2nd quarter but Marion County still extended their lead to 39-14 at halftime. Marion County had another big quarter in the 3rd, pulling out to a 60-19 lead on their way to a win by the final score of 65-32. Seniors Olivia Thompson (4 points), Shelby Salter (4 points), and Miranda Creason (2 points) all played their final games for Brashear. Meredith Thomas lead Brashear scoring with 10 points, Mandy Taylor had 6, Allison Thompson had 4, and Abby Hall scored 2 points. For Marion County, Devan Johnson scored 18 points, Kaelyn Spratt and Danielle Maxwell had 12 each, Sadie Pollard had 11, Victoria Hales scored 4, Destiny Johnson and Karley Spratt had 3 each, and Makenna Gorham scored 2 points.
Brashear put up 13 first quarter points on the top seeded Marion County Mustangs Monday, but still trailed 24-13 after the 1st quarter. The Tigers were totally shutout in the 2nd quarter as Marion County took a 39-13 lead into halftime. Marion County extended their lead to 62-22 after three quarters and won by a final score of 66-23. Hayden Housman (6 points), Nick Bradshaw (5 points), and Jeremy Barnes (2 points) played their their last games for Brashear. Chance Hill scored 4 points, and Gabe Thomas and Jacob Reeves had 3 points each. Marion County was paced by Clay Pollard with 20 points, Reed Plunkett added 15, Logan Kriegbaum, Kalin Robbearts, and A.J. Wellman had 6 each, Kason Spratt, Brandon Atteberry and Konnor Bridgman had 4 each, and Luke Stratton scored 1 point.
