Brashear JH Teams Play LaPlata at Atlanta Tournament November 12, 2013
Both Brashear teams faced LaPlata in first round play at the Atlanta Tournament Monday night. The Brashear girls fell behind 7-0 before closing the gap to end the 1st quarter with a 9-6 deficit. LaPlata led 16-11 after 2 quarters and 20-15 after 3 quarters of tough defensive play. As Brashear tried to dial up the defensive pressure in the 4th quarter, their defense finally cracked allowing LaPlata several easy baskets against the Brashear press and LaPlata won by a final score of 30-17. Caitlee Hall scored 7 points for Brashear, Hailey Lawrence added 4, Harli Mihalevich and Robbyn Wagster had 2 points each, and Kacie Mihalovich and Hannah Reeves scored 1 point each. For LaPlata, Elizabeth Larson scored 18 points, Autumn Allen and Madison Ebeling had 4 each, and Cinnamon St. Clair scored 2 points.
The Brashear boys only managed a single basket in each of the 1st 2 quarters as LaPlata built a 40-4 halftime lead. Brashear had their best quarters in the 2nd half with 8 points in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th as LaPlata rolled to a 57-17 win. Levi Blankenship, Triston Morrison and Zane Sykes scored 4 points each for Brashear, Wyatt Potter had 3, and Aden Zentz scored 2 points. For LaPlata, Trevor Pipes scored 14 points, Hank Noah had 10, Mitch Cox added 8, Logan Smith and Tanner Smith ha 6 each, Tanner Herron had 3, Tristan Lynch, Lance Couch, Kyle Roberts, and Drew Roberts had 2 each, and Tucker Noah and Tristan Borron scored 1 point each.
In other first round action Monday, the Green City A girls beat Bevier 40-1 and the Bevier boys beat Green City A 43-39.
