Brashear Falls to LaPlata in District 9 Class 1 Semi-Finals Thursday

North Shelby advances with a win over Cairo to face LaPlata in Saturday’s title game.

After playing 7 innings of solid errorless ball Wednesday night in their win over Knox County, the Brashear Lady Tigers came back with an uninspired performance against LaPlata Thursday. LaPlata got all of the offense they needed when Hali Hagar rolled a grounder over the orange safety bag and circled the bases in the first and then Eden Meade rolled a grounder up the middle and circled the bases in the 2nd staking LaPlata to a 3-0 lead after 2 innings. LaPlata added another run in the 4th. Trailing 4-0 going into the 5th, Brashear looked to still have a chance. All hope quickly disappeared as a series of Brashear miscues plated 6 LaPlata runs ending the game early with a 10-0 score. Winning pitcher Miranda Easley faced only 1 more batter than the minimum, striking out 8. The Bulldog defense turned in an errorless performance in support. Christina Scudder took the loss for Brashear. The Lady Tigers finished their season with a 12-9 record.

In the other semi-final game, North Shelby edged Cairo 2-1. North Shelby will face top seed LaPlata in the title game at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
