The Milan girls and Green City girls and the Grundy County boys and LaPlata boys pick up wins Thursday night.

In the consolation semifinals, Milan downed the Grundy County girls 66-23 and the Grundy County boys defeated Milan 65-34. Consolation games will be played Saturday afternoon.

In the girls championship semifinal game, top seeded Green City squared off against number 4 seed Brashear. Green City scored the first bucket, but Brashear answered with a bucket and a free throw on the play to lead 3-2. Green City made the next score to take the lead which they held until Brashear tied the game 18 all going into halftime. The end of the 3rd quarter saw the two teams still tied 27-27. Green City managed to pull ahead starting the 4th until Brashear tied the game mid 4th quarter and then took a 37-35 lead with 3:35 on the clock on a pair of Christina Scudder free throws. Once more, Green City battled back tying the game, and then taking a two point lead. With time running down, Brashear was forced to foul and were unable to make up the 2 point deficit falling to Green City 39-37. Brashear’s Kimberly Elsea led all scorers with 17 points, which included an 8 for 8 performance from the free throw line. Christina Scudder followed with a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. 6 of those points came from a 6 for 6 job at the charity stripe. Hailee Kelsey chipped in 6 points, and Ashley Clarkson and Jessi Hill each had 2 points. Green City was paced by Cloe’ Phillips with 11, Chelsea Rouse scored 10, Jaime Rouse had 9, Becky Rouse had 7, and Miranda Brisna had 2 points. Green City will face the winner of the Scotland County – Novinger game for the championship Saturday and Brashear will face the loser in the 3rd place game Saturday.

The LaPlata boys jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the championship semifinal game, but a scrappy Brashear team battled back to take a 12-10 lead. LaPlata quickly regained the lead and turned on the scoring machine, eventually downing Brashear 86-52. Jacob Shipman led Brashear with 14, Matt Thomas had 9, Kiley Watson scored 8, Ryan Ferdig had 7, Justin Hazen, Kale Watson, and Trae Treasure had 4 each and David Anderson scored 2 points. For LaPlata, Matt Fouch had 19, David Fouch had 18, Curtiss Bunch scored 12, Jordan Smith had 11, Dusty Baker had 9, Nick Lovingier had 8, Jesse Schrader had 5, and Josh Hartsock and Mike Eitel scored 2 points each.

LaPlata will face the winner of the Green City – Scotland County game for the championship Saturday and Brashear will face the loser in the 3rd place game Saturday.
