Brashear Tigers Pick Up a Pair of Wins Over Linn County Tuesday

The Tigers got off to a 1-0 start in the Tri-County Conference with wins in their home opener.

Lady Tiger coach Sara Williams started the evening with a reason for an elevated stress level. Senior guard Chelsey Collop was battling the flu and was unavailable to play. As the game unfolded, more problems developed as Junior Forward Hailee Kelsey ran into early foul trouble and had to spend critical minutes on the bench. Despite these setbacks, the Lady Tigers got important minutes from Sophomore Caroline Slavin and Freshmen Ashley Collop and Emily Ladwig. At the half, the Lady Tigers had a modest 24-19 lead. Brashear extended their lead to 36-27 at the end of 3 quarters and held off a late Linn County charge to pick up a 51-42 win. Kimberly Elsea and Jessi Hill were both in double figures with 14 and 13 points. Ashley Clarkson and Christina Scudder each had 8, and Hailee Kelsey and Emily Ladwig scored 4 each. For Linn County, Amber Munsterman had 17, Whitney Bennett had 12, Jaime Guffey scored 6, Meghan O'Kane had 3, and Katie Rogers and Jody Rogers had 2 points each.

In the boy's game, Brashear jumped out to an 18-4 1st quarter lead and cruised to a 63-45 win. Kale Watson had 17 points, Jacob Shipman had 15, Kiley Watson chipped in 14, Justin Hazen had 5, and Matt Thomas, Ryan Ferdig, and Trae Treasure had 4 points each. For Linn County, Wes Allnut had 14, Jason Grismore scored 12, Jake Oder had 11, TJ Bowen had 6, and Michael Nickell scored 2 points.
