Brashear at Bevier Friday

The Tigers and Lady Tigers spoiled Bevier's homecoming with a pair of wins.

It took the Lady Tigers awhile to get rolling Friday night as Bevier jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, but Brashear pulled ahead 11-10 at the end of the first frame and took a slim 20-18 lead into halftime. Both teams struggled offensively in the 3rd, but Brashear outscored Bevier 20-14 in the final quarter to take the 47-37 win. For Brashear, Kimberly Elsea led all scorers with 17. Christina Scudder was also in double figures with a 10 point-10 rebound double-double, Hailee Kelsey also had 10 boards and 8 points, Jessi Hill added 8 points, and Ashley Clarkson and Chelsey Collop scored 2 points each. Valerie Teter and Stephanie Ashenfelter shared scoring honors for Bevier with 10 points each, Whitney Ratliff had 6, Chandra Shurvington and Tristen Wilson had 4 each, and Katelyn Tolle scored 3 points.

The boys' game was a hard-fought battle with Brashear taking a 20-18 1st quarter lead and a 46-34 lead into halftime. Bevier outscored the Tigers 13-12 in the 3rd quarter and made a serious late run in the 4th, but 9 points from the charity stripe helped the Tigers fend off Bevier's challenge. The Tigers got the win by a final margin of 76-67. Four Tigers were in double figures with Kale Watson in the lead with 22. Jacob Shipman and Ryan Ferdig each added 16, Matt Thomas had 12, Kiley Watson had 7, Trae Treasure had 2, and Justin Hazen scored 1 point. Bevier's Brian Shelmadine led all scorers with 30, Kary Jennings had 19, Kyle Welch added 16, and Sam Thrasher scored 2 points.
