Brashear takes 2nd place at Schuyler County Softball Tournament September 27, 2008
The Lady Tigers defeat LaPlata and Schuyler County before falling to Knox County in tournament finals.
In their first round game, the Lady Tigers faced LaPlata. LaPlata went up 1-0 in the top of the 1st, but leadoff hitter Cierra Hines reached on an error and Macy Rogers drove her home with a home run to give Brashear a 2-1 lead. LaPlata answered with another run in the 3rd tying the game at 2-2, but Brashear broke the game open with a 8-run 5th inning on their way to an 11-3 win.
In the second round game, Brashear and Schuyler County were scoreless through the 1st 3 innings. Both teams scored a single run in the 4th, but Brashear posted another 3 runs in the 6th to claim a 4-2 victory setting up a showdown with Knox County for the tournament title.
Brashear got on the board early against Knox County as leadoff hitter Cierra Hines reached on an error and Abby McKim drove her in. Knox County also scored a run in the 1st, but continued to score with 3 in the 3rd, 2 in the 6th, and 2 in the 7th while Brashear’s offense sputtered. Knox County claimed the win by a score of 8-1 to take 1st in the tournament. Brashear claimed 2nd place.
Schuyler County took 3rd place downing Scotland County 9-8 and LaPlata claimed consolation edging Novinger 14-12.
