Brashear Hosts Novinger Tuesday November 4, 2008
The Tigers and Wildcats squared off for boys and girls A and B JH basketball games.
The Lady Tiger A team started off with a big 1st quarter taking an 8-2 lead into the 2nd frame and building a 13-6 lead at halftime. The tough, physical defense took it's toll on scoring in the second half, with Brashear outscoring Novinger 7-6 for a 20-12 win. Meredith Thomas had 9 points for Brashear, Shelby Salter had 5, Kristin Love added 4, and Katie Smith scored 2 points. For Novinger, Chloe Hubbard had 6, and Sierra Jacques, Maria Gunnels, and Ashlyn Ross scored 2 points each.
The Brashear boys also got off to a quick start taking a 13-8 lead after the 1st quarter, and a 20-14 lead into halftime. Novinger outscored Brashear 10-6 in the 3rd quarter to trim Brashear's lead to 26-24. During the 4th quarter, Novinger took the lead midway. Brashear kept the game either tied or within a bucket, but could never regain the lead and lost 35-33 when a shot in the last 5 seconds rimmed out. Joe Clarkson scored 14 points for the Tigers, Taren Treasure had 8, Joseph Woods added 6, Nick Thomas had 3, and Andy Belzer scored 2 points. Novinger's Chris Smith scored 12 points, Jonathan Novinger, Blake Smith, and Tristan Daniels had 6 each, and Matthew Matheney scored 5 points.
In the girls' B game, Novinger came out on top 10-7 and the Wildcats also took the boys' B game 19-3.
