Novinger Tournament Monday December 1, 2008

Brashear Lady Tigers and Tigers claim 1st round wins. Bevier girls and Milan boys also advance.

In 1st round action, the number 3 seed Brashear Lady Tigers faced the 6th seed Novinger Wildcats. The Lady Tigers got the tip and the 1st score of the game to take a lead they would never surrender. Brashear led 12-5 at the end of the 1st, 21-12 at half, and 26-16 after 3 quarters. Novinger made a run in the 4th quarter pulling within 2 at 31-29, but couldn't get any closer. Brashear sank key free throws in the last minute and held on for a 38-31 win. Macy Rogers and Emily Ladwig were in double figures with 14 and 12 points for Brashear. Shelby Rogers added 6, Stephanie Elsea had 5, and Sydney Slavin scored 1 point. For Novinger, Becca White had 9 points, Trisha Potter scored 8, and Renatta Blackorby and Kelsey Potter scored 6 points each.

The number 2 seed Brashear Tigers got off to a fast start against the 7th seeded Green City Gophers. The Tigers put up 26 points in both the 1st and 2nd quarters to hold a 26-10 lead after the 1st quarter and a 52- 24 lead at halftime. The scoring slowed somewhat in the second half with Brashear leading 65-30 after 3 quarters while coasting to a 69-43 win. Justin Hazen led a trio of Tigers in double figures with 14 points. Anthony Ambrosia scored 13, Kiley Watson had 11, Matt Thomas added 9, Jacob Owen had 6, Trae Treasure scored 5, Jay Scudder had 4, Cody Snelling had 3, and Dillon Redding and Adam Songer scored 2 points each. For Green City, Dylan Brundage scored 18 points, Matt Riddle had 8, Garrett King and Ora Jacobs had 7 points each, and Person scored 3 points.

In other 1st round action, the 7th seeded Bevier girls came from behind to tie number 2 LaPlata in regulation and then pulled off the upset 47-45 in overtime. In the other boys' game, Milan downed Novinger 62-49.
