Marion County at Brashear December 22, 2008
The Mustangs and Tigers split a non-conference varsity basketball double-header.
In the girls game, Marion County used a smothering press to jump out to a 10-0 lead before Brashear was able to take their 1st shot. The Lady Mustangs managed to push their lead to 16-2 by the end of the first quarter. Brashear adjusted to the pressure and had their best quarter in the 2nd putting up 8 points. However, Marion County responded with 12 points to take a 28-10 lead at the half. Marion County locked up the game with a 23 point 3rd quarter effort to claim the victory by a score of 59-12. Macy Rogers led Brashear's scoring with 7 points, Emily Ladwig and Shelby Rogers had 2 points each, and Sydney Slavin scored 1 point. For Marion County, Jordan Johnson scored 18 points, Jessica Redd had 17, Morgan Spratt added 8, Randi Lee Plunkett had 5 points, Kim Shuck and Ranay Sharpe scored 4 each, Kayla Bridgeman had 2, and Kayla Tuley scored 1 point.
Fortunes were reversed in the boys game as Brashear jumped out to an early 12-0 lead and started emptying their long bench as early as the 1st quarter. The Tigers led 20-8 after one quarter of play and 32-16 at halftime. Brashear continued to outscore Marion County in every quarter leading 43-25 after the third quarter and picking up the win by a margin of 63-33. Kiley Watson paced Brashear with 18 points, Trae Treasure added 14, Ryan Ferdig had 10, Justin Hazen scored 9 points, Matt Thomas had 6, and Anthony Ambrosia, Adam Songer, and Jacob Owen scored 2 points each. For the Mustangs, Dustin Bock had 11 points, Austin Redd scored 9, Justin Tobias had 7, and Nathan Wilkowsky scored 6 points.
