North Shelby Tournament Monday January 19, 2009
Knox County girls and boys, Scotland County girls, and Brashear boys are first round winners.
In the girls game between Brashear and Knox County, the Lady Eagles used an 8-0 1st quarter run to gain some breathing room. Knox County led 14-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. Brashear trailed by as few as 5 late in the 2nd quarter before another Knox County run put them up 25-14 at the half. It was all Knox County in the 2nd half as they extended their lead to 48-18 at the end of the third quarter on their way to a 55-23 win. Shelby Rogers scored 13 points for Brashear, Abby McKim and Emily Ladwig scored 4 points each, and Macy Rogers had 2 points. Tessa Ramer led Knox County with 14 points, Lorrie Peters was also in double figures with 10, Katie Ausmus and Stacey Leckbee scored 9 points each, Amber Ausmus added 5, and Myra Parrish and Amanda Woods scored 4 points each.
The Brashear boys jumped out to a commanding 22-5 lead over Scotland County at the end of the 1st quarter and led 39-20 at the half. The Tigers from Brashear continued to outscored the Scotland County Tigers in the 2nd half leading 57-33 at the end of the 3rd quarter and cruising on to a 66-35 win. Ryan Ferdig and Trae Treasure scored 14 points each for Brashear, Anthony Ambrosia added 11 points, Justin Hazen and Matt Thomas had 10 each, Kiley Watson had 4, Jay Scudder had 2 points, and Cody Snelling scored 1 point. For Scotland County, Brandon Garnett scored 12 points, Kasey Dial and Kyle Shelley had 8 points each, Jacob Howard had 4, Andrew Duley had 2, and Harley Stone scored 1 point.
In other first round action, the Scotland County Lady Tigers dumped LaPlata 56-38 and the Knox County boys downed Marion County 87-31.
