Brashear Tournament Final Results February 13-14, 2009

Friday night games included girls' and boys' 7th place and consolation games. Saturday featured girls' and boys' 3rd and 1st place games.

On Friday night of the Brashear Tournament, the Macon County girls defeated Putnam County JV in the 7th place game and the Putnam County JV boys won the 7th place game 48-40 over Atlanta. The girls' consolation game went to Novinger with a 58-53 win over Atlanta and Macon County took the boys' consolation game 60-53 over Marion County.

Saturday night action started with the girls' 3rd place game. North Shelby took a 13-11 lead over Brashear after 1 quarter of play and led 31-21 at halftime. The Lady Raiders widened their lead to 43-32 in the 3rd quarter before Brashear mounted a comeback in the 4th. Brashear outscored North Shelby 26-16 in the fourth quarter and held a lead for much of the late action, but with Brashear holding a 3 point lead and the clock under 10 seconds, North Shelby drove to the basket for a layup and a foul. With the basket making it a 1 point game, the free throw missed, but Brashear was unable to control the rebound and North Shelby scored the winning bucket on the inbound play. The final score was North Shelby 59 - Brashear 58. For Brashear, Macy Rogers and Emily Ladwig were both in double figures with 20 and 12 points, Abby McKim had 9, Caroline Slavin scored 8, Shelby Rogers had 4, Sydney Slavin had 3, and Stephanie Elsea scored 2 points. North Shelby was led by Jessica Linberger with 15 points, Jillian Yoder added 12 points, Amanda Orr and Hillary Hinderson had 11 each, Danielle Rich and Olivia Ahern had 4 points each, and Brittany Blaise scored 2 points.

The boys' 3rd place game saw North Shelby jump out to an early 19-11 1st quarter lead over Novinger. The North Shelby lead was 29-22 at halftime, 44-31 after 3 quarters, and the Raiders picked up the win by a final score of 72-43. John Stoneburner and Dahn Kemp led the way for North Shelby with 19 and 15 points. Novinger had 3 players in double figures, Aric Lumen with 14, Cory Smith with 11, and Ben Morelock with 10 points.

In the girls' championship game, Class 1 state-ranked Marion County struggled to keep up with Knox County who led 11-9 after 1 quarter before Marion County took a slim 20-19 lead into halftime. After the half, the Lady Mustangs used a 19 point effort to pull out to a 39-32 lead after 3 quarters of play and then held on to take the tournament championship by a score of 57-49. Jordan Johnson and Randi Lee Plunkett led the way for Marion County with 13 points each. Morgan Spratt and Jessica Redd were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points. Lorrie Peters paced Knox County with 17 points and Katie Ausmus added 10 points.

The boys' championship game was a much-anticipated matchup between the Knox County Eagles and the Brashear Tigers. The Eagles got off to a quick start and led Brashear 15-13 after 1 quarter and 28-23 at halftime. Brashear outscored Knox County 17-9 in the 3rd quarter to grab a 40-37 lead and again outscored Knox County 17-14 in the 4th to win the championship 57-51. Brashear had a trio of players in double figures. Kiley Watson scored 16 points, Matt Thomas added 11, and Trae Treasure had 10 points. Ryan Ferdig scored 9, Justin Hazen had 7, and Anthony Ambrosia scored 4 points. For Knox County, Dennis Dent scored 16 points, Mitchel Penn had 11, Justin Reeves added 10, Lucas Hudson scored 7, Brett Bryant had 3, and Brett Wilkerson and Parker Dixon scored 2 points each.
