Bucklin at Brashear Tuesday February 17, 2009

The Tigers and Bulldogs split a pair of conference basketball games.

The Lady Tigers aren't known for having a long bench. There are only 7 girls on the team, and with Junior starter Emily Ladwig sidelined with illness, they knew it could be a tough game. Bucklin took an early lead of 11-8 after the 1st quarter but Brashear stayed within 1 at 22-21 at halftime. Bucklin pushed their lead to 36-32 after 3 quarters of play and despite runs by Brashear, Bucklin held on for the 52-45 win. For Brashear Macy Rogers scored 19 points, Shelby Rogers had 8, Stephanie Elsea and Sydney Slavin had 5 points each, and Abby McKim and Caroline Slavin scored 4 points each. Shelby Shoemaker led scoring for Bucklin with 16 points, Amber Liebhart added 12, Heather Main scored 10, Jessica Sorenson had 6, and Paige Casady and Allison Liebhart scored 4 points each.

The boys' game saw Brashear jump out to a quick 30-4 lead after one quarter giving the Tigers' 9 bench players lots of minutes. Brashear led 48-11 at halftime, 69-25 after 3 quarters and won by a score of 73-29. Anthony Ambrosia led a balanced Brashear scoring attack with 14 points. Justin Hazen and Ryan Ferdig had 9 points each, Trae Treasure had 8, Matt Thomas and Hayden Coin scored 7 points each, Kiley Watson and Jay Scudder had 6 each, Cody Snelling had 5, and Adam Songer scored 2 points. For Bucklin, Jordan Harter had 14 points, Ben Williams scored 10, Marc Finney had 3, and Broc Finney scored 2 points.
