Knox County Baseball at Brashear April 16, 2009
Brashear's Matt Thomas came within one fielding error of pitching a perfect game.
A 4th inning ground ball error is all that stood between Matt Thomas and a perfect game. Thomas struck out the 1st 8 batters he faced and had retired 9 in a row when the error broke up his bid for a perfect game. After that point, Thomas retired then next 12 Knox County batters in order, striking out another 6 in the 4-0 Brashear victory. Brashear scored a run in the 4th when Cody Snelling drew a leadoff walk, then stole 2nd base. As Snelling stole 3rd, the catcher's throw sailed over the 3rd baseman allowing Snelling to score. Brashear added 3 insurance runs in the 6th as Snelling singled, Kiley Watson walked, and Hayden Coin hit a 3-run homer. Parker Dixon took the loss for Knox County striking out 8 while giving up 3 hits and walking 5. Matt Thomas got the win allowing no hits and no walks while striking out 14. For Brashear, Hayden Coin went 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 rbi's, and Cody Snelling had a single and 5 stolen bases.
