Mary Immaculate JH Basketball at Brashear November 17, 2009
The Hawks and Tigers split a pair of 7th and 8th grade games.
In the girls' game, both teams were cold in the 1st quarter, but Mary Immaculate managed to take a 4-0 lead after 1 quarter, that jumped out to a 15-1 lead early in the 2nd quarter. Brashear battled back to close the gap to 15-9 at halftime. During the 2nd half, the margin remained about 6 points until Brashear made a comeback in the final minute tying the game at 27 all with 15 seconds left. Neither team could muster another score and the game went into overtime. Mary Immaculate scored a basket and Brashear scored a freethrow in the overtime to give Mary Immaculate a 29-28 win. Brashear scorers were Meredith Thomas with 13 points, Allison Thompson had 7, Ashley Moncrief and Kayla Snelling had 3 each, and Nikki Moncrief scored 2 points. For Mary Immaculate, Emily Schwend had 13 points, Kaitley Hagar scored 6, Alie Freeland had 4, and Kallie Holte, Audrey Wichmann, and Katie Magg scored 2 points each.
The Brashear boys jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the 1st quarter and went into halftime leading 17-5. In the second half, Brashear continued to extend their lead to 25-10 after 3 quarters and finished with a 40-18 win. Brashear scoring was led by Marcus Jefferson with 10 points, Jacob Reeves added 9, Curtis Blakely had 6, Chance Hill had 5, Tristin Smith and Gabe Thomas had 4 each, and Sam Smith scored 2 points. For Mary Immaculate, Andrew Mansfield scored 8 points, Koby Bird and Luke Morrow had 4 each, and Ryan Ciehanski scored 2 points.
