Novinger Tournament Monday November 30, 2009

Bevier and Milan girls, Scotland County and Green City boys advance.

The Novinger Tournament kicked off at 4:30 Monday with a girls' game between #2 seed Bevier and #7 seed Brashear. In the early going, it was hard to tell that this was supposed to be a #2 vs #7 matchup. Brashear stuck close through the 1st quarter trailing 13-12. Bevier's hot shooting during the 2nd quarter allowed them to open a 27-16 lead at the halfway mark. Brashear closed the gap to 33-24 during the 3rd quarter, but could come no closer and Bevier picked up the win by a score of 45-30. For Brashear, Stephanie Elsea scored 16 points, Sydney Slavin had 6, Shelby Salter had 4, Ashley Watson had 2 and Katie Smith and Olivia Thompson scored 1 point each. Bevier had 3 players in double figures. Dominica Prokup and Valle Wilson scored 17 points each, Cheyenne Shelmadine had 10, and Courtney Mattingley scored 1 point.

In the other girls' game, Milan topped Novinger 82-59. In boys' action Scotland County defeated Milan 58-28, and Green City beat Bevier 53-42.
