Brashear at Marion County December 21, 2009

Marion County sweeps a pair of non-conference basketball games.

The Marion County Lady Mustangs jumped out to a quick lead, racking up 21 points in the first quarter while holding Brashear scoreless. Marion County extended their lead to 40-2 at halftime. The Lady Tigers faired a little better in the 2nd half, finally breaking into double digit scoring in the 58-11 loss. Stephanie Elsea and Shelby Salter each had 4 points for Brashear, Miranda Creason had 2, and Katie Watson scored 1 point. Marion County was led by Jessica Redd with 17 points, Ranay Sharpe added 9, Randi Lee Plunkett and Kaelyn Spratt scored 8 each, Rachelle Sharpe, Kayla Bridgman, and Kim Shuck had 4 points each, and Jordan Johnson and Karley Spratt scored 2 points each.

In the boys' game, Brashear got on the scoreboard first and held an 8-7 lead after one quarter. The game remained close in the 2nd quarter and Marion County led 18-16 at halftime. Marion County managed to open a 35-27 lead during the 3rd quarter, and despite a 21 point 4th quarter effort by Brashear, Marion County hit 13 4th quarter free throws to hold on for a 56-48 win. Anthony Ambrosia had 15 points for Brashear. Cody Snelling chipped in 11, Jay Scudder had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, Matt Thomas added 8 points, and Adam Songer scored 4 points. For Marion County, Kason Spratt led with 22 points, Nathan Wikowsky had 14, Clay Pollard added 11, Dustin Bock had 7, and J.J. Chatfield scored 2 points.

Brashear will next see action New Year's Eve in the Trenton Holiday shootout where the girls will face Southwest at 9:00 a.m. and the boys will play Princeton at 1:30 p.m.
