North Shelby Tournament Thursday January 21, 2010

Championship semi-finals included Scotland County and Knox County girls and LaPlata and Scotland County boys. Consolation semi-finals included Brashear and North Shelby girls and Brashear and Marion County boys.

The North Shelby Lady Raiders jumped out to an 11-4 1st quarter lead over Brashear in Thursday's consolation semi-final game. Brashear matched North Shelby point for point in the 2nd quarter to stay within 7 at 21-14 at the half. Brashear came out strong after halftime pulling to within 31-29 at the end of the 3rd quarter, but North Shelby bounced back in the 4th picking up the win by a score of 46-31. For Brashear, Stephanie Elsea scored 16 points, Shelby Salter had 12, Abby McKim had 2, and Sydney Slavin scored 1 point. North Shelby was led by Jessica Linberger with 30 points, Danielle Rich added 5, Rachel Echternacht scored 4, Ashton Reitz had 3, and Miriam Martin and Elizabeth Linberger scored 2 points each. North Shelby will play Schuyler County Friday at 7:30 for consolation and Brashear will face Atlanta Friday at 4:30 for 7th place.

In the boys' consolation semi-final game, Brashear jumped out to a 17-11 lead after 1 quarter, but the lead was cut to 25-24 at halftime. Marion County kept up the defensive pressure in the 2nd half and took a 36-32 lead after 3 quarters. Brashear was within striking distance late in the game, but Marion County rallied to pull away for a 56-47 win. Anthony Ambrosia led Brashear with 16 points, Cody Snelling added 15, Matt Thomas scored 12, and Adam Songer scored 4 points. For Marion County, J.J. Chatfield had 18 points, Kason Spratt scored 11, Nathan Wikowsky and Dustin Bock scored 8 points each, Clay Pollard had 6, and Cody Oles scored 5 points. Marion County will play North Shelby for consolation Friday at 9:00 and Brashear will face Atlanta for 7th place Friday at 6:00.

In other Thursday games, the Knox County girls advanced to Saturday's championship game with a 51-31 win over Scotland County. Knox County will face Marion County at 6:00 and Scotland County will play LaPlata Saturday at 3:00 for 3rd place. The LaPlata boys made it to the tournament finals with a 57-52 win over Scotland County. LaPlata plays Schuyler County Saturday at 7:30 and Scotland County plays Knox County Saturday at 4:30 for 3rd place.
