Weather delays start of Brashear's 81st Annual Invitational Basketball Tournament.

Snow in Northeast Missouri caused most schools to dismiss Monday and Tuesday and caused a revision of the Brashear Tournament schedule. After missing 2 nights of play, the tournament finally got underway with first round games at Brashear and another set of first round games at Atlanta. To make up for the other lost day, games will also be played Saturday afternoon as well as the originally scheduled Saturday evening games. A revised bracket is online at:

The Brashear girls kicked off the tournament with a 4:30 game with 2nd seed Knox County. Knox County jumped out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter and held Brashear scoreless in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-4 lead into halftime. Knox County extended their lead to 52-11 after 3 quarters and picked up the win by a score of 57-15. Brashear scoring was led by Stephanie Elsea with 7 points, Sydney Slavin had 4, and Abby McKim and Megan Taylor scored 2 points each. For Knox County, Lorrie Peters scored 23 points, Becca Mallett added 10, Stacey Leckbee had 9, Kathleen Hinkle had 8, Hannah Dale had 4, Katie Ausmus had 2, and Myra Parrish scored 1 point.

The Brashear boys wrapped up Wednesday night play with a 9pm game with Novinger at the Atlanta site. Novinger scored the 1st five points of the game and Brashear was in catch-up mode the entire game. Novinger held a 12-5 lead after 1 quarter and a 25-16 lead at the half. Brashear closed the gap to within 4 in the third quarter, but Novinger pushed their lead back to 38-28 to start the 4th quarter. Brashear fought back once again in the 4th, but failed to sink a long shot at the buzzer and came up one point short giving Novinger the 48-47 upset victory. Matt Thomas led 4 Brashear scorers in double figures with 12 points, Anthony Ambrosia, Adam Songer, and Taren Treasure had 11 each, and Joe Clarkson scored 2 points. For Novinger, Trevor Stocks and Chris Smith scored 14 points each, Trevor Munday added 8, Ben Morelock had 6, and Chazz White, Mathew Matheney, and Austin Martin had 2 points each.

In other 1st round girls games Marion County topped Macon County 83-22, Kirksville JV downed North Shelby 49-36, and Novinger defeated Atlanta 61-37. In boys 1st round games, Knox County beat Macon County 80-39, North Shelby topped Atlanta 62-50, and Marion County defeated Putnam County JV 61-54.
