Brashear Tournament Thursday February 11, 2010

The Knox County girls and Marion County boys advance to Saturday's championship games.

The Brashear girls played a 4:30 consolation semi-final game with Atlanta Thursday. The Lady Tigers jumped out to an 11-4 1st quarter lead and took a 28-12 lead into halftime. Brashear continued to outscore Atlanta in the 2nd half leading 42-15 after 3 quarters on their way to a 51-23 win. Chandi March was the leading scorer for Brashear with 10 points, Shelby Salter and Abby McKim had 9 points each, Stephanie Elsea had 8, Megan Taylor scored 6, Katie Smith had 5, and Sydney Slavin scored 4 points. For Atlanta, Amanda Spearman scored 13 points, Miranda Hruska had 7, Shelby Tipton had 2, and Amelia Smothers scored 1 point.

The Brashear boys played the late game Thursday with a consolation semi-final versus Putnam County JV. The Tigers took a 15-10 lead after one quarter and a 34-25 lead at halftime. Brashear extended their lead to 50-37 after 3 quarters, and despite a late charge by Putnam County, managed to outscore Putnam Co JV every quarter on their way to a 65-49 win. Anthony Ambrosia led all scorers with 28 points for Brashear. Matt Thomas had 15 points, Adam Songer had 11, Zach Reeves had 7, and Taren Treasure and Nick Thomas scored 2 points each. For Putnam County, Trey Ream scored 20 points, Keaton Hixenbaugh added 12, Justin Fox had 7, Skyler Hendee and Derek Tribble had 3 points each, and Josh Dodsworth and Corey Lewis scored 2 points each.

In other Thursday night games, the Knox County girls advanced to the championship game with a 72-44 win over Novinger, and the Marion County boys also advanced to the championship game with a 69-40 win over Novinger.
