Brashear Tournament Saturday February 13, 2010

The Marion County girls and Knox County boys win tournament titles.

Saturday was a busy day at the Brashear Tournament with 8 games on the schedule due to snow-outs earlier in the week. The first scheduled game of the day wasn't held due to a forfeit, but still left 7 games. Here are the results from Saturday:

Girls 7th Place:
Macon County over Atlanta by forfeit

Boys 7th Place:
Putnam County JV 79 - Macon County 61

Girls Consolation:
North Shelby 55 - Brashear 27

Boys Consolation:
Brashear 58- Atlanta 45

Girls 3rd Place:
Kirksville JV 63 - Novinger 47

Boys 3rd Place:

Girls 1st Place:
Marion County 54 - Knox County 41

Boys 1st Place:
Knox County 52 - Marion County 45

In the girls' consolation game, Brashear and North Shelby traded baskets throughout the 1st quarter with North Shelby holding a slim 11-10 lead at the end. North Shelby then outscored Brashear 16-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-13 lead into halftime. North Shelby also had a strong 3rd quarter extending their lead to 45-17 before Brashear rallied to match North Shelby point for point in the final quarter. North Shelby claimed the Consolation trophy by a final score of 55-27. For Brashear, Shelby Salter scored 11 points, Katie Smith, Abby McKim, and Chandi March had 4 points each, and Stephanie Elsea and Megan Taylor scored 2 points each. North Shelby scoring was led by Jessica Linberger with 17 points, Hillary Henderson added 12, Danielle Rich and Elizabeth Linberger had 7 points each, Rachel Echternacht had 4, and Nora Dodd, Ashton Reitz, Leah Gaines, and Miriam Martin scored 2 points each.

The boys' consolation game was a matchup between Brashear and Atlanta. Atlanta led 11-8 after the 1st quarter in which Brashear starter Adam Songer suffered an ankle injury which caused a game delay while waiting for an ambulance. Brashear battled back in the 2nd and took 28-25 lead at the half. Brashear extended their lead to 44-39 after 3 quarters and took the Consolation trophy by a final score of 58-45. Matt Thomas scored 20 points for Brashear, Anthony Ambrosia had 15, Zach Reeves scored 9 points, Taren Treasure, Nick Thomas, and Joe Clarkson had 4 each, and Adam Songer scored 2 points. For Atlanta, Travis Miller had 13 points, Aaron Sampson added 12, Mick Garnett, Brady Bogeart, and Nathaniel Lush had 6 each, and Derek Johnson scored 2 points.
