Canton Softball at Brashear September 8, 2010
The host Tigers and the visiting Tigers split a non-conference varsity/jv double-header.
In Wednesday night's softball game, the first two innings went quickly as Canton's Kristyn Caldwell allowed only 2 base runners while Brashear's Kristen Love retired the first six Canton batters in order. The stalemate was broken in the 3rd as Canton scored a run, but Brashear answered with a pair of runs, including a solo inside the park homer by Cierra Hines. Both pitchers continued to dominate as Brashear held on to their slim 2-1 lead until Canton tied the game 2-2 in the top of the 7th. Brashear got the 3-2 win in the bottom of the 8th as Ashley Watson singled to left, Nikkie Moncrief and Meredith Thomas both bunted their way on to load the bases, and Shelby Salter drove in the winning run with a line drive into center field. Cierra Hines homered for Brashear, Shelby Salter had 2 hits, and Meredith Thomas, Kristen Love, Nickkie Moncrief, and Ashley Watson all had hits. Campen had the lone hit for Canton. Kristen Love got the win for Brashear with Caldwell taking the loss for Canton.
Canton won the jv contest by a score of 3 to 1.
