Green City JH Basketball Tournament October 14-15, 2010

Green City held their annual mini-tournament Thursday and Friday nights. In first round action, the Brashear girls took on LaPlata. LaPlata started out strong the first half scoring 8 in the first and 13 points in the second to take a 21-4 halftime lead. The Brashear defense did a better job of containing LaPlata's scoring in the second half holding them to 5 in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th quarter. Brashear still couldn't generate enough offense to get back into the game and LaPlata claimed a 28-8 win.

The Brashear boys also faced LaPlata in Thursday night 1st round action. Like in the girls' game, LaPlata got off to a quick start offensively and led 35-10 at halftime. Brashear also scored another 10 points in the 2nd half falling to LaPlata 54-20.

In other Thursday night 1st round games, the Green City girls defeated Novinger 21-12 and the Novinger boys downed Green City 49-7.

In Friday night's girls 3rd place game, Brashear met Novinger. Both teams were a little slow getting out of the gate with Brashear leading 4-2 after one quarter of play and 10-4 at halftime. Despite pulling away for a time in the second half, Brashear couldn't shake Novinger who made a furious run in the 4th quarter. Ultimately, Novinger's run came up short, and Brashear held on for a 25-21 win.

In the boys' 3rd place game, Green City quickly jumped out to a lead, but Brashear battled back to trail only 12-8 after the 1st quarter and 19-12 at half-time. Green City gradually pulled away during the 2nd half and claimed 3rd place with a 40-23 win.

In the girls' championship game, LaPlata defeated Green City, and in the boys' title game, LaPlata topped Novinger.
