Novinger Tournament 1st Round Results November 30, 2010
In Monday night action, the Milan girls beat Bevier 43-34, the LaPlata girls topped Green City 53-27, and the Scotland County boys beat Bevier 75-24. Tuesday night, the Green City boys defeated Milan 53-36, Novinger boys beat Brashear 48-23, Scotland County girls beat Moberly JV 50-18, and the Brashear girls were victorious over Novinger 37-24.
The Brashear Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and were on top 9-3 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Brashear lead was 18-11 at the half. Brashear increased their lead to 28-14 after 3 quarters and won the game 37-24. Shelby Salter scored 13 points for Brashear, Meredith Thomas added 9, Stephanie Elsea had 6, Sydney Slavin had 4, Katie Smith and Olivia Thompson had 2 each, and Miranda Creason scored 1 point. For Novinger, Renatta Blackorby scored 11 points, Sierra Jacques and Mallory Singleton had 4 points each, Callie Farrell had 3, and Emily Reardon scored 2 points.
In the Brashear vs Novinger boys' game, both teams came out with aggressive defenses leading to little scoring and numerous turnovers. Brashear led 5-4 after 1 quarter with Novinger taking an 11 to 8 lead into halftime. Novinger started to find the range in the 2nd half. They also converted 14 2nd half free throws to take a 26-15 lead after 3 quarters on their way to a 47-23 win. For Brashear, Hayden Housman scored 7 points, Cody Snelling and Nick Thomas had 4 each, Taren Treasure and Zach Reeves had 3 each, and Dillon Redding scored 2 points. Novinger was paced by Jonathan Novinger with 15 points, Chris Smith added 9, Matthew Matheny and Austin Martin had 6 each, Trevor Stocks had 5, Ben Morelock had 4, and Nick Snyder scored 2 points.
