Novinger Tournament Final Results December 4, 2010
The Brashear boys' team met Milan in the consolation game of the Novinger Tournament Friday night. Brashear kept Milan off balance in the early going and led 14-10 after 1 quarter of play. Milan outscored Brashear 14-7 in the 2nd quarter to pull ahead 24-21 at halftime. Milan continued to outscore Brashear in the 2nd half and led 38-27 after 3 quarters on their way to a 56-37 win for the consolation trophy. Once again, Brashear benefited from a 15 point bench effort. Taren Treasure led Brashear with 8 points, Nick Thomas had 7, Adam Songer and Hayden Housman had 6 each, Jay Scudder had 4, and Zach Reeves scored 3 points. Milan's Derek Price and Mason Clark were both in double figures with 16 and 12 points, Alex Oder and Cooper Bankus had 8 points each, Cody Fordyce had 6, Jon Antle had 4, and Tristan Fowler scored 2 points.
The Brashear girls also played Milan in a 3rd place game. Milan had a small 12-9 lead after 1 quarter and led 27-18 at halftime. Brashear stayed within 8, trailing 41-33 after 3 quarters and refused to go away. With Milan holding a 7 point lead with under a minute left to play, Brashear mounted a rally and tied the game 54-all to force overtime. Milan struck first in overtime taking a 56-54 lead, but Brashear quickly countered to take a 57-56 lead. Milan managed to retake the lead 58-57 and despite several shots by Brashear in the closing seconds, Milan held on for a 58-57 win and a 3rd place trophy. Meredith Thomas led all scorers with 24 points for Brashear, Abby McKim added 10, Shelby Salter and Sydney Slavin scored 9 each, Stephanie Elsea had 3, and Katie Smith scored 2 points. For Milan, Giovanna Caponetto scored 18 points, Hannah Sanders had 13, Jordan Dunlop added 12, Andra Sylvester had 8, Deb Thompson had 5, and Danah Page scored 2 points.
In other Friday night games, the Bevier girls claimed consolation with a 47-40 win over Moberly JV and Green City defeated Novinger 45-35 in the 7th place game.
On Saturday night, the Novinger boys edged Green City 38-37 for third place. The Scotland County girls claimed 1st place with a 34-21 win over LaPlata and the LaPlata boys powered to a 71-37 win over Scotland County to take 1st.
