Brashear Basketball at LaPlata December 14, 2010
Tuesday night, the Brashear Tigers traveled to LaPlata for a Tri-County Conference basketball double-header. The girls' game started with both teams applying lots of defensive pressure, limiting the scoring by both teams. LaPlata held an 8-7 lead after the first quarter. The Bulldogs started to find the range during the 2nd quarter and built a 23-11 lead at halftime. LaPlata continued to expand their lead in the 2nd half, leading 34-17 after 3 quarters on their way to a 44-20 win. For Brashear, Shelby Salter had 8 points, Stephanie Elsea and Abby McKim scored 4 points each, Sydney Slavin had 2, and Katie Smith and Meredith Thomas scored 1 point each. LaPlata was paced by Rachel Shahan with 14 points, Emily Heissler had 10, Jeana Bane added 9, Mallory Eitel and MaKay Belt scored 4 each, and Brittaney Bingham scored 3 points.
In the boys' game, LaPlata came out with the hot hand scoring 23 points in the 1st quarter while limiting Brashear to 4 free-throw points. Brashear managed to score 11 points in the 2nd quarter, but LaPlata also had their best quarter in the 2nd taking a 50-15 lead into halftime. LaPlata pushed their lead to 75-21 in the third quarter and won by a score of 84-27. Jay Scudder led Brashear scoring with 7 points, Hayden Housman added 6, Joseph Woods scored 5 points, and Adam Songer, Nick Thomas, and Zach Reeves scored 3 points each. For LaPlata, Hayden Fouch led with 16 points, Birdie Buck scored 15 points, Taylor Wheeler had 14, Kyle Larson added 10, Christian Bunch and Weston Smith had 9 each, Peyton Swift had 8, and Taylor Herron scored 3 points.
