Brashear Teams Lose 1st Round Games at North Shelby Tournament January 18, 2011
The Lady Tigers fall to Scotland County and the Tigers are overcome by LaPlata
The Brashear girls got a rough start to the North Shelby Tournament as Scotland County held them scoreless in the 1st quarter and limited them to only 4 free-throw points in the 2nd quarter. Scotland County led 19-4 at halftime. Brashear got some offense going in the 2nd half scoring 7 points in the 3rd and 7 points in the 4th quarter, but it was too little, too late as Scotland County went on to win the game 43-18. Shelby Salter had 6 points for Brashear, Abby McKim and Sydney Slavin had 4 points each, and Meredith Thomas and Olivia Thompson scored 2 points each. For Scotland County, Ashley Tague scored 13 points, Anna Duley and Jamie Shaw had 9 each, Megan Creek and Skyler Alderton had 5 each, and Aimee Dale scored 2 points.
The Brashear boys also got off to a poor start as LaPlata pressed their way to a 32-4 lead after the first quarter. Brashear played their most competitive ball in the 2nd quarter, but still trailed 50-15 at halftime. LaPlata didn't slow down in the 2nd half scoring 27 points in the 3rd quarter to coast to an 86-33 win. For Brashear, Hayden Housman scored 8 points, Cody Snelling and Nick Thomas had 7 each, Adam Songer scored 5, Zach Reeves had 4, and Jay Scudder scored 2 points. LaPlata's Peyton Swift led all scorers with 29 points, Weston Smith added 21, Taylor Wheeler had 14, Hayden Fouch scored 8, Birdie Buck had 6, Andrew Perry and Taylor Herron had 3 each, and Kyle Larson scored 2 points.
