Green City Basketball at Brashear January 25, 2011

Brashear sweeps a pair of Tri-County Conference games.

In Tuesday night's girls' game, Green City jumped out to an 11-3 lead and was up 14-9 after the first quarter of play. Brashear battled back, outscoring the Lady Gophers 20-14 in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-28 lead into halftime. It remained a close game after the intermission with Brashear holding a 38-35 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Free throws proved to be the deciding factor as Brashear knocked down 9 free throws in the final quarter to hold off Green City for a 51-47 win. Brashear's Stephanie Elsea led all scorers with 21 points, Shelby Salter added 16, Abby McKim had 7, Meredith Thomas had 3, and Katie Smith and Sydney Slavin scored 2 points each. For Green City, Cheyanne Heaton scored 18 points, Jourdan High had 11, Shelby Billington had 7, Maren Hatcher had 6, Emily Sorenson had 4, and Alicia Albrecht scored 1 point.

The first quarter of the boys' game was close with Brashear finishing with a slim 19-15 lead. The Tigers gained a little breathing room as they outscored Green City 19-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-26 lead into halftime. Green City made small runs during the third quarter pulling to within 8 at one point, but Brashear had an answer for every run and led 52-40 after 3 quarters on their way to a 65-40 win. Adam Songer led all scorers with 21 points for Brashear, Nick Thomas had 12, Cody Snelling had 12, Hayden Housman added 7, Jay Scudder had 6, Joe Clarkson had 4, and Joseph Woods scored 2 points. For Green City, Christopher Hoerrman scored 18 points, Brandon Pearson had 11, Garrett King had 7, and Aaron Conner scored 4 points.
