Brashear Basketball at Novinger February 18, 2011
In Friday night's girls game, the Brashear Lady Tigers got off to a quick start, taking an 8-2 lead before Novinger came storming back to take an 11-10 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Brashear retook the lead 14-11 in the 2nd quarter only to see Novinger rally to take a 21-14 lead at halftime. The 2nd half was all Brashear as the Lady Tigers pulled ahead 29-24 after 3 quarters and won 46-34. Sydney Slavin led Brashear scorers with 14 points, Meredith Thomas had 12, Stephanie Elsea had 10, Shelby Salter had 6, and Abby McKim scored 4 points. For Novinger, Renatta Blackorby scored 16 points, Sierra Jacques and Chloe Hubbard had 7 each, and Callie Farrell and Mallory Singleton scored 2 points each.
The Tigers also enjoyed an early 5-2 lead before Novinger bounced back to lead 12-5 at the end of the first quarter. The two teams each scored 16 points in the 2nd to leave Novinger up 28-21 at halftime. Novinger had a big 3rd quarter extending their lead to 46-27 before Brashear started a comeback in the 4th. The Tigers rallied to shave Novinger's lead to 52-40 with 5 minutes left, but Novinger sank 14 free throws in the 4th quarter to preserve their 68-43 homecoming win. Cody Snelling scored 14 points for Brashear, Hayden Housman added 13, Adam Songer had 7, Jay Scudder had 4, Nick Thomas had 3, and Joseph Woods scored 2 points. For Novinger, Seth Walters scored 24 points, Trevor Stocks had 14, Ben Morelock added 10, Jonathon Novinger had 9, Matthew Matheny and Nick Snyder had 4 each, and Chazz White scored 3 points.
