Brashear Takes Consolation at Knox County Softball Tournament September 29, 2012
The Knox County Softball Tournament originally scheduled for September 1, was played Saturday. Brashear faced Canton in their first round game. Brashear and Canton traded runs in the 1st inning, but Canton had a breakout inning in the 3rd, scoring 6 runs to lead 7-1 after 3. Brashear got another run in the 4th and 2 in the 6th, but fell short with Canton winning 10-4. Meredith Thomas, Shelby Salter, Mandy Taylor, and Sidney Sykes had hits for Brashear. Merrell, Phillips, Hoewing, Boalman, Crenshaw, Carper, and Campon had hits for Canton. Audrey DeBie took the loss for Brashear with Carper picking up the win for Canton.
Because of the withdrawal of the Kirksville JV team, there was a 'bye' spot in the bracket. This meant that Brashear would advance directly to the Consolation game where they faced Paris. This game was a defensive struggle from the start. Neither team had scored a run through 5 innings. That changed in the bottom of the 6th as Brashear's Mandy Taylor drew a walk and was driven in by Nicole Wagster. That was all the offense Brashear needed as they won Consolation 1-0. Ashley Moncrief, Mandy Taylor, Abi Kerby, and Nicole Wagster had hits for Brashear. Fredrick, Gruber, Longerud, Bell, and Bounds had hits for Paris. Alexa Acton picked up the win for Brashear with Longerud taking the loss for Paris.
