Class 1 District 9 Softball October 3, 2012

The #3 seeded Brashear Lady Tigers took on the Marion County Lady Mustangs Wednesday in 1st round district play. Brashear scored in the first to take a 2-0 lead, but Marion County answered in the 2nd to make the game 2-2. Marion County might have scored more in the early going, but Brashear's catcher Meredith Thomas and shortstop Shelby Salter teamed up to cut down 2 runners trying to steal 2nd in the first 2 innings. Marion County took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 3rd, but Brashear retook the lead in the bottom of the inning. The 5-run outburst was highlighted with a Mandy Taylor 2-run homer. Marion County scored 4 in the top of the 4th to knot the game at 7-7, but Brashear added 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good, eventually winning by a score of 18-8 in 6 innings. Meredith Thomas, Ashley Moncrief, Allie Garrett, Shelby Salter, Mandy Taylor, Alexa Acton, Audrey DeBie, and Angela McKim had hits for Brashear. Smith, Pollard, Booth, Krigbaum, Goodwin, J. Johnson, and D. Johnson had hits for Marion County.

In the other 1st round game, Canton faced North Shelby. The game was a defensive battle with the score tied 1-1 after 3 and 2-2 after 5. North Shelby took a 3-2 lead in the top of the top of the 6th, but Canton broke through with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to win by a score of 6-3.

Brashear will face Scotland County Thursday and Canton will play Knox County.
