Brashear at Canton January 25, 2013

The Canton Tigers hosted the Brashear Tigers for Canton's Homecoming Friday night. The Canton girls took an early lead of 10-7 after one quarter, but Brashear outscored Canton 11-4 during the 2nd quarter to take an 18-14 lead into halftime. Canton came out fired up in the 3rd quarter and retook the lead 32-24 after 3 quarters and held on as Brashear made a strong comeback run. Canton was the winner by a final score of 40-33. Shelby Salter and Meredith Thomas were both in double figures for Brashear with 11 and 10 points, Olivia Thompson had 6, Nikkie Moncrief had 4, and Miranda Creason scored 2 points. For Canton, Kailee Gaither scored 11 points, Bailey Hoewing had 8, Allison Phillips had 7, Emma McKinstry and Courtney Baalman had 4 each, and Jordyn Crenshaw and Brittney Berhorst scored 3 points each.

The state-ranked Canton boys got on the scoreboard early and often, running up a 53-16 lead at halftime. Brashear's offense faltered in the 2nd half as Canton pulled away for a 93-23 win. Jacob Reeves scored 9 points for Brashear, Luke Morrow and Gabe Thomas had 5 each, and Chance Hill scored 4 points. For Canton, Gabe McKenzie scored 17 points, Austin Hoewing, Tyler Newmann, David McReynold, and Geordan Hansdorf had 13 each, Cameran Durst had 10, Brandon Berhorst scored 8, Lucas Brown had 4, and Logan Brown and Johnny Lee scored 2 points each.
