Marion County Varsity Basketball at Brashear November 25, 2013
Brashear got their varsity basketball season started Monday night as they hosted the Marion County Mustangs. The Lady Tigers managed to keep their composure in the opening minutes against a tough Marion County full court press and were tied 4-4 before Marion County caught fire and pulled out to a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Neither team put many points on the board in the 2nd, with Marion County leading 24-7 at halftime. Marion County came out hot after the half, putting up 17 3rd-quarter points and cruised to a 46-17 win. Allison Thompson scored 6 points for Brashear, Abi Kerby added 3, Ashley Moncrief, Mandy Taylor, and Robbyn Wagster had 2 each, and Skylar Housman and Kylie Williams scored 1 point each. For Marion County, Devon Johnson scored 17 points, Roxanne Tobias had 14, Danielle Maxwell had 6, Victoria Hales had 4, Sadie Pollard had 3, and Destiny Johnson scored 2 points.
The Marion County boys jumped out to a quick 30-5 lead after one quarter and led 52-20 at halftime of a physical game that saw 25 fouls whistled in the first half. Brashear scored 15 in the 3rd and 11 in the 4th quarters, but the damage was already done as they fell 81-46 to the Mustangs. Chance Hill led all scorers for Brashear with 19 points, Luke Morrow had 16, Gabe Thomas and Jacob Reeves had 4 each, Colt Acton had 2, and Brody Henrichs scored 1 point. For Marion County, Reed Plunkett scored 16 points, Brandon Atteberry had 14, Gavin Booth added 10, Jacob Stratton had 8, Royce Johnson had 7, AJ Wellman and Konnor Bridgman had 6 each, Luke Stratton had 5, Logan Krigbaum had 4, Nolan Ryan and Keegan Mortensen had 2 each, and Anthony Bock scored 1 point.
