LaPlata at Brashear December 17, 2013
The LaPlata Bulldogs visited Brashear Tuesday for a pair of varsity basketball games. The Lady Bulldogs got on the scoreboard and jumped out to an early lead. Brashear started chipping away at the lead with LaPlata ahead 13-9 after one quarter and 15-13 at halftime. The 3rd quarter was a disaster for Brashear as LaPlata outscored them 15-3 to lead 30-16. LaPlata extended the lead to 18 points in the 4th quarter before Brashear rallied to trim 10 points off the deficit lossing by a final score of 40-32. Ashley Moncrief and Meredith Thomas each scored 7 points for Brashear, Abi Kerby had 6, Abby Hall had 4, and Sidney Sykes, Skylar Housman, Mandy Taylor, and Hailey Lawrence scored 2 points each. For LaPlata, Kalie Lene scored 19 points, Hannah Larson added 10, Ally Gregory had 9, and Jessica Davison scored 2 points.
The LaPlata boys forced Brashear turnovers and had early success from the 3-point arc to take a 28-6 lead after one quarter and a 48-15 lead at halftime. Brashear was more productive offensively in the 2nd half, but LaPlata kept the pedal to the metal in the 2nd half to claim a 77-39 win. Jacoby Bleything and Brody Henrichs scored 8 points each for Brashear, Colt Acton had 6, Gabe Thomas and Jacob Reeves had 5 each, Luke Morrow had 4, Sam Smith had 2, and Chance Hill scored 1 point. For LaPlata, Tanner Riggins scored 14 points, Ben Bolden had 10, Baylon Belt added 9, Mitch Cox, Seth Brown, and Matt Safley had 8 each, Hunter Howe and Ty Davison scored 7 each, and Logan Smith, Kirk Larson, and Hank Noah scored 2 points each.
