21ST CCLC TIGER PRIDE NEWS

 

On April 6, 2005, three Truman State University victimology students plan to present “The Nature of Bullying and How to Prevent It” to fourth through sixth graders in Tiger Pride.  The goals of this presentation are to educate students on the subject of bullying, to instruct them on how to deal with a bullying situation, and to illustrate how bullying affects their peers.

 

Other activities planned for Tiger Pride for April include:  TSU International Club to present “International Idol”, Physics Presentation by TSU students, Lawn Mower Safety Program, Bicycle Safety Program, “Sam” the KTVO mascot will visit, Dance, Gymnastics, and French.

 

The following are items needed for upcoming Tiger Pride activities:

 

Shoeboxes, egg cartons, wax paper, tissue paper, pencils,

games and art supplies including glue and markers.

 

A Big Thank You to all who contributed time and labor and/or desserts for the Concession Stand fundraiser.  We earned $200, which will be used for supplies and consumables.  THANKS!

 

YEARBOOK SALES

 

Yearbook sales will begin on April 1 and will continue until May.  This is the 57th edition of the BHS yearbook.  The number of yearbooks ordered for the year is limited.  Plan to order a yearbook early in order to reserve a copy for you and your family.

 

Yearbooks will be $42 without a name and $45 with a name.  Yearbooks with a name must be ordered by April 15.  Yearbooks ordered on or after May 1 will be $45.  Please make your check payable to Adair County R-II School.  Order forms may be returned to the elementary or high school offices.

 

LIBRARY DONATIONS

 

We would like to thank Charlene Fisher for her donation of the book, Ted Williams, in memory of Debbie Edwards.  We would also like to thank Richard Priest and Carolyn Whitmore for their donations of the Smithsonian magazine. These books and magazines are available in the library for viewing.

 

Books make a lasting tribute to the memory of our loved ones.  If there is someone that you would like to memorialize in this way, please contact Denise Brown, Library Media Specialist at 323-5272.

 

APRIL ELECTION

 

Tuesday, April 5, 2005 is Election Day.  Patrons of the Adair County R-II School District will be voting to elect three school board members.  This year we have had five candidates file for the three available positions.  Those who have filed include Angela Shultz, Danny Harrelson, incumbent Curtis Gordon, incumbent Douglas Clarkson, and Traci Hill.

 

MUSIC NEWS

 

Congratulations to Andrea Reeves, 1st chair flute; Christina Scudder, 5th chair clarinet; Amanda Mills, 8th chair clarinet; and Amanda Powell, 1st chair bass clarinet for their wonderful performances with the Tri-County Conference Band tour held on Monday, March 7.

 

The following soloists and ensembles earned Superior (I) ratings on their performances at the Central Methodist University Music Festival on February 25:  Amber Alexander, flute solo; Tabitha Killen, flute solo; Alexis Harrelson, clarinet solo; Amanda Powell, bass clarinet solo; Anthony Chambers, tenor saxophone solo; Jacob Shipman, trumpet solo; Seth Wheeler, snare drum solo; Andrea Reeves, Amanda Mills, and Amanda Powell, mixed woodwind trio; and Andrea Reeves, Amber Alexander, and Tabitha Killen, flute trio.

 

The following soloists and ensembles earned Excellent (II) ratings on their performances at the Central Methodist University Music Festival on February 25: Andrea Reeves, flute solo; Amanda Mills, clarinet solo; Tyler Horton, alto saxophone solo; Bridget Clarkson, alto saxophone solo; Katie Stewart, french horn solo; David Anderson, trumpet solo; Justin Hazen, baritone solo; Alexis Longano, snare drum solo; Jeremy Clay, snare drum solo; Matthew Edwards, snare drum solo; David Anderson, Jacob Shipman, Katie Stewart, and Justin Hazen, mixed brass quartet; and Bridget Clarkson, Tyler Horton, and Anthony Chambers, saxophone trio.

 

Congratulations to all of our talented musicians.

 

TIGER PRIDE

 

Congratulations to the following students who qualified for state competition at the District 3 FBLA contest on March 8:  Josiah Belzer, Business Math, 1st; Christina Scudder, Introduction to Business Communications, 1st; and Danielle Lowe, Accounting I, 2nd.  These students will compete at the State Leadership Conference in Columbia on April 17-19.  Congratulations also to the following students who placed in the Top 10 at District 3 FBLA contest:  Amanda Powell, Introduction to Business Communications; Bill Elam, Mr. FBLA; Seth Wheeler, Word Processing I; Brooke Salter, Ms. FBLA; Jeremy Clay, Public Speaking; Holly Hazen, Job Interview; Jessi Hill, Introduction to Business; Kellie Primmer, Business Communications; ChaRae Cole, Business Calculations; Andrew Linhart, Accounting I; and Brent Platz, Tyler Killen, and Kale Watson, Entrepreneurship.

 

Our high school basketball teams recently completed their winter seasons.  The Lady Tigers finished the season 17-10 overall and 6-2 in conference.  The Tigers finished the season 5-20 overall and 1-7 in conference.  Kimberly Elsea, Dani Moyer, and Brent Platz  were named to the North Shelby All-Tournament Team.  Tri-County All-Conference 1st Team selections included Kimberly Elsea and Dani Moyer.  Second Team selections included ChaRae Cole, Hailee Kelsey, and Brent Platz.  Kimberly Elsea and Brent Platz were also named to the All-District and Kirksville Daily Express All-Area Second Teams.  In addition to the above mentioned honors, Kimberly Elsea was selected to the Class 1 Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State Team and was the recipient of the KIRX/Pro-Tech Athlete of the Week for January 11.

 

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

 

We will be conducting our annual Kindergarten registration on Monday, May 2,  from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the elementary school.  All district children who will be 5 years old prior to August 1, 2005 are eligible to register for Kindergarten for the 2005-2006 school year.  Please bring the following items with you on that day: birth certificate and immunization records.

 

WILLIAMS NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

 

Girls basketball coach Sara Williams has been named the 2004 Missouri Girls Coach of the Year by the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) Coaches Association.

 

This award is not a single season achievement award, but rather rewards coaches for a cumulative career of accomplishments, on and off the athletic field.  Involvement with other school and community activities and programs and coaching philosophy are also considered.

 

Congratulations Coach Williams.  We appreciate your commitment to our students and athletes.

 

SILENT AUCTION

 

There will be a silent auction held one hour prior to the Awards Banquet on May 9.  Proceeds will go to support the Tiger Athletics.  Individuals or businesses wanting to donate items to be used for the auction may contact Matt Copeland at 323-5272 extension 41.
