ADAIR COUNTY R-II NEWSLETTER
APRIL 1, 2009 Brashear, Missouri
APRIL SHOWERS COLLECTION
Our Brashear
Daisy and Brownie troops will be placing an April Showers collection bag on the
doors of homes throughout Brashear on Friday, April 17th and Saturday, April
18th. The girls will return the
following Saturday, April 25th to collect the bags. We ask that the bags be filled with personal care items such as
soap, toilet paper, disposable razors, diapers, shampoo, etc. These items will donated to the Adair County
Food Depot to help local families who cannot afford to purchase personal care
items.
April Showers is
a component of the Girl Scout's Giving Program in which the girls serve over
1,000 agencies and tens of thousands of individuals through giving tangible
gifts and gifts of time visiting, writing and entertaining the young and the
old alike.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
We will be
conducting our annual Kindergarten registration on Friday, April 24, from 9:00
a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the elementary school.
All district children who will be 5 years old prior to August 1, 2009
are eligible to register for Kindergarten for the 2009-2010 school year. Please plan to bring your child’s birth
certificate and immunization records with you on that day.
APRIL ELECTION
Tuesday, April
7, 2009 is Election Day. This year we
have had two candidates file for the two available positions. Those who have filed include incumbents
Bradley A. Smith and Roger L. Thompson.
The district will not hold an election since the number of candidates
who have filed for the Board is equal to the number of positions
available. However, we encourage all
patrons to exercise their right to vote on other important issues.
PAT NEWS
Thank you to
everyone who attended the
“Get Fit” program on March 2nd.
Families enjoyed exercising to Elmo, playing with the big parachute, and
making healthy snacks.
Our next group
meeting will be April 22nd from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for parents of children 3-5
years. We will be discussing
Kindergarten readiness for both parents and children. More information will be sent in the mail soon.
Mrs. Tuggle
TESTING BEGINS
Your child will soon be taking the Spring Assessment. Depending on the grade level of your child,
he/she will be taking from 1 to 3 portions of the Missouri Assessment Program
(MAP). The question types range from
multiple-choice items to short answer and constructed response (essay).
In the past, we
have offered an incentive for those students who put forth their best effort on
the MAP tests. This years incentive has
yet to be decided but they will be rewarded for their
efforts. Students must score a minimum of 110 each
session on the effort guide.
You may assist
us in this process by seeing that your child has plenty of sleep, has a good
breakfast, and has a good mental attitude preceding test days. Also, please do not schedule any
doctor/dentist/hair appointments during testing hours. A copy of the testing schedules are included
with this newsletter. You might also
reassure your child that the results of these tests would make us better able
to help him/her with school work. If
you have questions or concerns, please call.
Mrs. Grissom

GROUNDHOG JOB SHADOW DAY
A huge thank you
to all of the parents and local business people who helped make Adair County
R-II Schools Groundhog Job Shadow Day a success. Sixty-two students from grades 5, 7 and 10 were out on the job
in February.
Groundhog Job
Shadow Day is sponsored by America’s Promise, National School-to-Work
Opportunities Office, Junior Achievement and American Society of Association
Executives and is a day dedicated to giving young people across America Job
Shadowing experiences. Job Shadowing
enables kids to shadow a workplace mentor as he or she goes through a normal
day on the job, providing an up-close look at how the skills learned in school
are put into action in the workplace.
Students
returned from their Job Shadowing experience enthusiastic and with a better
understanding of how the skills learned in the school environment are used in
the “real world” work place. We
appreciate the effort put forth by the parents, mentors and businesses involved
in making this a successful learning experience for these students.
