ADAIR COUNTY R-II NEWSLETTER
APRIL 1, 2010 Brashear, Missouri
APRIL SHOWERS
COLLECTION
Our
Brashear Daisy, Brownie, and Junior troops will be placing an April Showers
collection bag on the doors of homes throughout Brashear on Friday, April
9. The girls will return on Saturday,
April 17 to collect the bags.
Collection boxes will also be available at the school, Back Roads
Bar
& Grill, and Willowbend. We ask
that the bags be filled with personal care items such as soap, toilet paper,
disposable razors, diapers, shampoo, etc.
These items will be donated to the Adair County Food Depot to help local
families who cannot afford to purchase personal care items.
April
Showers is a component of the Girl Scout's Giving Program in which the girls
serve over 1,000 agencies and tens of thousands of individuals through giving
tangible gifts and gifts of time visiting, writing and entertaining the young
and the old alike.
KINDERGARTEN
REGISTRATION
We will
be conducting our annual Kindergarten registration on Friday, April 30, from
8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the elementary school. All district children who will be 5 years old prior to August 1,
2010 are eligible to register for Kindergarten for the 2010-2011 school year. Please plan to bring your child’s birth
certificate and immunization records with you on that day. You may contact Karla at 323-5272 to
schedule your appointment.
APRIL ELECTION
Tuesday,
April 6, 2010 is Election Day. This
year we have had two candidates file for the two available positions. Those who have filed include James Reeves
and Duayne Housman. The district will
not hold an election since the number of candidates who have filed for the
Board is equal to the number of positions available. However, we encourage all patrons to exercise their right to vote
on other important issues and races.
PLAYGROUND

Thank
you to everyone who attended and/or donated desserts for the Spaghetti Supper
on March 22. With your support, $700

We will
again be selling flower bulbs.
Information and order forms will be sent home with students next week.
This was a great fundraiser in the fall, and we hope to do as well this spring.
If you
have any suggestions or ideas for future fundraisers, we would appreciate them. Please contact Toni Tuggle or Jo Kincaid at
the school.
TESTING BEGINS
Spring
state testing will begin the week of April 6.
Please make every effort to have your student here on time, well rested
with a nutritious breakfast. It would
be a great help if you could avoid making appointments for your students during

questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Grissom.

MSHSAA
SUMMERTIME DEAD PERIOD
MSHSAA
By Law 108.0
All
member schools shall establish a summertime dead period for all
MSHSAA-sponsored activities. By
definition, this is a defined length in which no contact takes place between
school coaches/directors of MSHSAA-sponsored activities and students enrolled
in the member school, or who will be enrolled in the member school during the
next school year. Further, during the
dead period school facilities are not utilized by enrolled students in
connection with any sport or activity governed by MSHSAA. The dead period is a “no school activities
time", no open gyms, competitions, practices, conditioning, weight
training; no activity-related functions or fundraisers, camps, or clinics at
school facilities or sponsored elsewhere by the school; no coaches/directors or
students may have planned contact other than casual, normal community,
non-activity contact. The school dead
period must be the same for all sports and activities. While there may be sports activities during
this time, they must NOT involve the school coach, the school, or the school
facilities.
The
district has set our dead period for July 17-25, 2010. If you have any questions, please contact
Shelly Shipman at (660) 323-5272 ext. 19.

GROUNDHOG JOB
SHADOW DAY
A huge
thank you to all of the parents and local business people who helped make Adair
County R-II Schools Groundhog Job Shadow Day a success. Fifty-two students from grades 5, 7 and 10
were out on the job in February.
Groundhog
Job Shadow Day is sponsored by America’s Promise, National School-to-Work
Opportunities Office, Junior Achievement and American Society of Association
Executives and is a day dedicated to giving young people across America Job
Shadowing experiences. Job Shadowing
enables kids to shadow a workplace mentor as he or she goes through a normal
day on the job, providing an up-close look at how the skills learned in school
are put into action in the workplace.
Students
returned from their Job Shadowing experience enthusiastic and with a better
understanding of how the skills learned in the school environment are used in
the “real world” work place. We
appreciate the effort put forth by the parents, mentors and businesses involved
in making this a successful learning experience for these students.

DRAMA CLUB TO
PERFORM
The
Brashear Drama Club will be performing "Virgil's Wedding" and
"The Test" on Friday, April 9, at 7:00 p.m. Cost of admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students, or $8 for
the family. Below is a brief description
of these one act plays:
"Virgil's
Wedding" - You're invited to the social clash of the century as Ms.
Delanie, a high-end wedding planner, and her assistant, Barbie, are hired to
direct a simple ceremony for two of Lickskillet's favorite lovebirds. Guaranteed a promotion if the wedding is a
success, Ms. Delanie invites her boss, Mr. Wright, to attend the ceremony. But, of course, there's nothing simple about
the wild romp before the nuptials.
"The
Test" - A satire-powered comedy that explores the pitfalls and potholes of
testing in America. An Indiana Jones
whip-snap of scenes that move quickly from one to the next, handing out belly
laughs at times and then slowing down for some poignant, thoughtful moments as
well. Humor and satire collide in this
sketch comedy that captures the essence of what is right, wrong, and heinous in
American schools today.
SPRING CONCERT
Mr.
Haupt and the Brashear Music students would like to cordially invite the
members of the Brashear community to the annual Spring Concert. Come enjoy bands, choirs, percussion
ensembles, and more on Thursday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m.
