APRIL ELECTION

Tuesday, April 2, 2013 is Election Day.  This year we had two candidates file for the two available positions.  Those who filed include incumbents James A. Reeves and Duayne Housman.

The district will not hold an election since the number of candidates who filed for the Board is equal to the number of positions available.

SPRING ASSESSMENT

Your child will soon be taking the Spring Assessment.  You may assist us in this process by seeing that your child has plenty of sleep, has a good breakfast, and has a good mental attitude preceding test days.  Also, please do not schedule any doctor/dentist/hair appointments during testing hours.  Test results will help us provide a more complete education to all students.

FROM THE DESK OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

I wanted to send out an update on the status of our playground project.  With your support, over $500 was raised at our spaghetti supper held on Monday, March 25th.  Way to go!  This money will be added to the funds currently in our playground account.  We would like to say a BIG thank you to EVERYONE who has donated money, time, and their efforts to this project.  In addition to the fund raising efforts, we have applied for a grant through the Regional Planning Commission.  This is a matching grant that will allow us to "get more" for our money.  We have yet to hear from them, but I will keep everyone informed of the progress with the grant.  If we are awarded the grant, we will start our playground renovations this summer!  Yay!!  The planned improvements will take time and it is something we do not want to rush.  So, please be patient.  Expanding the size of the playground is a priority for this summer along with new fencing and ground work.  If we are not awarded this grant, we will research other grants and available resources to complete our project.

Again, this is a big project and at times it may seem like little is being accomplished, but there is a lot of preparation work that must be done in order to reach our end goal of a new and expanded playground.  This is a project the district, the staff, the community, and the parents are committed to completing for our children.

Thank you again for your continued support and involvement in the Brashear School District.

Shelly Shipman
Superintendent
