There will be two seats open for the Board of Education election on April 3, 2001. The incumbents are Frank Collop and Brenda Kelsey. Those elected will serve three-year terms. The first day for candidates to file is Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at 8:00 a.m. The last day for candidates to file will be Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at 5:00 p.m.
A candidate must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the Adair County R-II School District, have resided in the state of Missouri for at least one year preceding the election, and be at least 24 years of age.
Candidates must file a campaign expenditure affidavit and agree to obtain 16 hours of credit in school boardmanship within 12 months of the election.
Interested candidates may pick up filing materials in the Superintendent's office beginning at 8:00 a.m. on December 19, 2000 until noon. The office will be closed December 25 and 26. We will be open on December 27, 28, and 29 from 8:00 a.m. to noon then we will again close on January 1, 2001. Regular office hours will resume on January 2, 2001. On January 16, the office will be open until 5:00 p.m. for filing purposes. Questions? Call the Superintendent's office at 323-5272 during regular business hours.
Citizens have until Wednesday, March 7, 2001 to register to vote
in the April general election.
The Adair County R-II Music Department will be presenting
their Christmas program entitled "Share the Joy with Music"
on Thursday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
This event is in conjunction with the December PTS meeting. All
elementary general music classes, the elementary and high school
bands, and the high school glee club will be participating. The
public is welcome to attend. A box in the entryway will be available
for patrons to bring their "Pepsi Notes" from the Share
the Joy with Music campaign. Any and all contributions will
be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to the following students for having their artwork selected for the Northeast District Traveling Art Show--High School: Lacey Hale, Lindsey Dimmitt, Sarah Wheeler, Rachel Turner, Josh Hettinger, Brandon Crandall, Lisa Coin, Cory Shaver, Tara Stutsman, and Shelly Howard. Elementary: Shelby Mills and Tyler Heimer. This exhibit will travel to more than ten area schools before arriving back in Brashear in the fall of 2001.
Kelly Moore has been selected to the NEMO high school All-District Honorable Mention Band. She was chosen by audition on November 11 and will perform in concert on January 13.
Congratulations also to Brooke Salter, Dani Moyer, Morgan Shahan,
Holly Hazen and Samantha Stewart for being chosen to participate
in the NEMO junior high All-District Honors Band. They will audition
for placement on January 6 and perform in concert on February
17.
We enjoyed the support of many community patrons for our second annual Ms. BHS Contest that was held on November 17, 2000 as part of the first drug-free activity night for this school year. Five male contestants spoofed the world of female beauty pageants as they vied for the title in cheerleading outfits, casual wear, and evening gown. Each contestant was a winner:
