ADVANCED
EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT
Parents,
do you expect to qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) this year? It
can reduce the tax you pay when you file your federal income tax return.
But you may not have to wait till tax time. If you qualify for Advance EITC,
your employer can add advance payments to your take-home pay, every payday.
That could help ease the burden of meeting day-to-day expenses.
Find out if you qualify for Advance EITC. Ask your employer for Form W-5, Earned Income Credit Advance Payment
Certificate. If you qualify, return the completed form to your employer.
Any questions? Call 1-800-829-3676 for free IRS Publication 596, Earned Income Credit. Or visit the IRS
Web site at www.irs.gov.

FOURTH GRADE
MISSOURI HISTORY FIELD TRIP
Fourth
grade students recently traveled to St. Joseph, Missouri, for hands-on learning
about some important people and events in our state's history.
Students
participated in a scavenger hunt at Patee House Museum, a National Historic
Landmark. A player piano serenaded all
who enjoyed Sassafras in the renovated Buffalo Saloon.
Among
many exhibits were the Lewis and Clark Expedition, old trains, and 18th century
storefronts. The Pony Express Museum
took students back in time through a 70 foot, three dimensional diorama. It recreated the riders and their 2,000 mile
trek to California to deliver the mail.
The
class also enjoyed the Jesse James Museum and Doll Museum, where dolls and toys
ranged from 1840's covered wagons to present-day dolls and miniatures.
Mrs.
Stephens and Mrs. Whitlow wish to say a big "Thank You" to parents who
helped to sponsor the trip and/or allowed their children to go.
FROM THE
COUNSELOR
7
Habits of Highly Responsible Students
1. They set goals.
2. They plan their time.
3. They study every day.
4. They take notes in
class.
5. They have the tools
they need.
6. They keep their
commitments.
7. They get ready ahead
of time.
Experts
say that if we repeat an action every day for just 21 days, it is likely to
become automatic. So, for the next 21
days, encourage your kids to act on the habits of responsible students. They'll soon find they do them without even
thinking. And, they'll be more
responsible-and more successful—in school as well! [Taken from The Parent
Institute's Quick Tips]

COMMUNITY METHAPHETAMINE PREVENTION, A COLLABORATIVE STATEWIDE PREVENTION
EFFORT
A
coalition of law enforcement, businesses, schools, and community leaders has
been formed to help in the extermination of meth in Northeast Missouri. At the
first meeting, everyone was asked to get information to the public that can
help in this task. We have put together some information for the public on meth
and the manufacture of meth. Please help local law enforcement make Missouri a
safe place for our children to live. At this time, more meth is manufactured in
the state of Missouri than any other state and the public has to help if we are
to reduce or eliminate this problem.
