SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION WEEK

Missourians benefit every day from the dedicated energies and countless hours devoted by a group of more than 3,600 men and women in every community across the state.  These public servants are elected by local constituents and do not receive compensation for their tireless efforts.  These men and women are the local school board members of Missouri.

During the week of January 20-26, communities across the state honored the dedicated service of local boards of education during School Board Recognition Week, as proclaimed by Governor Jay Nixon.  The goal is to build awareness and understanding of the important function an elected board of education plays in communities and schools.  All Missouri citizens are asked to recognize the important contributions of these men and women and focus attention on the vital role school boards play in the education of Missouri's children.

Article found on MSBA website.

For their untiring personal dedication and commitment to public service, let’s give our school board members a hand.

BRASHEAR TOURNAMENT

The Adair County R-II 84th Annual Invitational Tournament will be held Monday, February 4 through Saturday, February 9 at the Brashear High School Gymnasium.  We will host teams from Atlanta, Kirksville JV, Knox County (girls), Marion County, North Shelby, Novinger, and Putnam County JV.  The tournament brackets are included with this mailing.

Admission fees for the tournament will be $2.00 for students, $3.00 for adults with a maximum of $8.00 per family.  The family rate is for parents and children only.  It does not include grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.  Admission for senior citizens will be $1.00.  We hope to have good community support, as we always have, for the tournament games.

PAT PROGRAM

The Parents as Teachers program is a development-centered program offered by our school district for parents and their children ages prenatal to 5 years of age, Pre-K level.  This is a state and federally funded program, free of charge, to families wanting to learn more about their children’s early development.  Parents as Teachers focuses on three areas of emphasis:  parent/child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being.  Each area of emphasis is designed to help the parent become more knowledgeable about their child’s growth and development through interacting more with their children and to give each family a sense of well-being by providing them with helpful resources.  The program offers home visits by a parent educator who will provide age appropriate curriculum and activities and useful resources for the parents and their children.  To learn more about the program, please contact Jill Mason, Parent Educator, at (660) 323-5272 ext. 33 or email her at  jill_mason@brashear.k12.mo.us
