RESULTS OF ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT

The Annual Performance Report (APR) shows the district’s status on the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) Performance Standards. For all districts, the APR is intended to serve as an annual status report on the MSIP Performance Standards and as a planning tool for improvement efforts. The report is intended to further assist districts as they refine improvement plans for all students. The APR allows us to know where we are in the "eyes" of the state department and it provides us with insight on the direction we need to take for the future. The report measures the district in each of the following twelve categories. Each of the 12 Performance Measures for K-12 districts will be designated either "Met" or "Not Met" according to the published Scoring Guide for that school year.

MAP Grade 3-5 Mathematics Met

MAP Grades 3-5 Communication Arts Met

MAP Grades 6-8 Mathematics Met

MAP Grades 6-8 Communication Arts Met

MAP Grades 9-11 Mathematics Met

MAP Grades 9-11 Communication Arts Met

Career Education Placement Met

Graduation Rate Met

AYP Subgroup Achievement Met

14 out of 14 performance standards were met as criteria for the Missouri School Improvement Program through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

We are very pleased to have achieved this high mark. As pleased as we are with these results, we know that there is still room for improvement and we plan to look closely at the results and make plans to address areas of need.

DESE HONORS ADAIR COUNTY R-II SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR "DISTINCTION IN PERFORMANCE"

Gov. Blunt commends educators and students for progress

State education officials announced that nearly 300 Missouri school districts have earned the state’s prestigious "Distinction in Performance" award for academic progress and achievement during the last school year (2006-07).

A total of 294 school districts qualified for the annual recognition, which is determined by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  Of this year’s recipients, 247 are K-12 districts; 47 are K-8 districts.  Last year, 235 districts qualified for the award.

"Education is the most important, critical and significant investment we can make in our future," Gov. Matt Blunt said.  "I pledged to the people of Missouri that my administration would renew our state’s commitment to education, and I have kept that pledge.  Education funding has been, and will continue to be, my highest budget priority."

"I commend Missouri educators and students for their hard work and progress.  By maintaining a strong focus on achievement and accountability in all schools, we can help all students have a brighter future," he said.

The Distinction in Performance award is based on the 14 academic performance standards that are now used in the accreditation of all public school districts.  K-8 school districts are covered by a portion of these standards.  The standards are based on scores from the state-mandated MAP tests, graduation rate, attendance, ACT scores, and other indicators.

To qualify for the award this year, K-8 districts had to meet 6 of 7 performance standards, including all of those based on the results of MAP tests.   K-12 districts had to meet 13 out of 14 standards, including all of the MAP-based measures.

Under the state’s accreditation process, known as the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP), each school district is evaluated at least once every five years.  The Distinction in Performance award is based on the same criteria used in the accreditation process, but it provides an annual confirmation and recognition of a district’s consistent performance.

DISTRICT REPORT CARD AVAILABLE

State law (Section 160.522) requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to publish an annual "report card" about each school district, each school building and each charter school. The reports include all of the data required by state law, plus information required by federal law (No Child Left Behind). The information is compiled from data reported to the Department by local school districts.

The 2006-2007 district report card is now available at: http://dese.mo.gov/planning/profile/rc001092.html

If you would like a copy of this report card, contact the district office at 323-5272.

PARENT PORTAL AVAILABLE SOON

This year the Adair County R-II School District has invested in an online student information system that will allow us to improve communication between school and home. This system includes a Parent Portal that allows you to access your child’s information with regard to attendance, lunch accounts, nurse visits, grades, etc.

Starting second semester (on or around January 9), parents will be able to access this information on the Internet. Portal access will be available only to those parents who have signed the Parent Portal Technology Usage Agreement.

One fundamental need for acceptable parent/guardian use of District electronic resources is respect for, and protection of, password/account code security, as well as restricted databases, files, and information banks.

Parents with multiple children enrolled at Adair County R-II only need to fill out one Parent Portal Technology Usage Agreement. If you would like this access, please contact the school to complete a Parent Portal Technology Usage Agreement. If you have already signed a Parent Portal Technology Usage Agreement and have not received an email with a password by January 14, please let us know.

THE ADVANCED EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT

Parents, do you expect to qualify for the Earned Income tax Credit (EITC) this year?  It can reduce the tax you pay when you file your federal income tax return.

But you may not have to wait till tax time.  If you qualify for Advance EITC, your employer can add advance payments to your take-home pay, every payday.  That could help ease the burden of meeting day-to-day expenses.

Find out if you qualify for Advance EITC.  Ask your employer for Form W-5, Earned Income Credit Advance Payment Certificate.  If you qualify, return the completed form to your employer.  Any questions?  Call 1-800-829-3676 for free IRS Publication 596, Earned Income Credit.  Or visit the IRS Web site at www.irs.gov.
